We arrived in Bujumbura, Burundi last week on Tuesday. The purpose of our visit was both business and pleasure. Our host checked us into Safari Gate Hotel because it is right next to the construction site we are working on.
We landed early in the evening to find Burundian drummers performing in the garden. This is an interesting sight and sound because the drummers somehow manage to drum and dance gracefully and in unison.
Here is a video of Burundi drummers in action to give you a clue of how mesmerizing the whole procedure is 🙂
The hotel has 10 rooms and is less then two minutes from the lake.

Its close proximity to the lake has advantages and disadvantages.. It is a good thing because you get to enjoy your meals at the hotel’s restaurant which has a great view of the lake and the hippos. The problem is you end up being the mosquitoes meal in the process..

The hotel is functional. It is not a luxury hotel but is ideal if you are in and out of Bujumbura. They have wireless internet at no extra cost which is a bonus. The signal is not too strong in the rooms so whenever we had heavy duty work on-line we would carry our laptops and set camp in the lobby.
The staff was extremely helpful and made us feel at home. Have a look at their website if you fancy stopping when you visit Burundi.
