7 Awesome Things That Happened At The Irish Embassy Event Last Night…

St. Patrick’s Day is just but a few hours away. Last year, we were delighted to attend a pre-St. Patrick’s Day gathering, the Irish Film Festival courtesy of Brian Harding and the Irish Embassy here in Nairobi. This was a few days before St. Paddy’s Day…

This year the embassy had something unique lined up. Along with the global greening lineup (#GoGreen4ForPatricksDay) the Irish Embassy lit up Ahmed the elephant at the Nairobi National Museum last night.

Tourism Ireland announced that this year, along with Ahmed the Elephant, the following would be “greened” in 2016: The World Trade Centre at Ground Zero (New York), The Big wheel on Place de la Concorde (Paris), Mole Antonelliana (Turin), The Light Rail System (Addis Ababa), City Hall (Tel Aviv), The Colosseum (Rome) and The Statue of Christ The Redeemer (Rio De Janeiro)

Here are 7 cool things that happened at the Nairobi greening event…

1. I share this picture as the first thing simply because of how excited I was to meet her! The Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Environment was in the house! Prof. Judi Wakhungu is one of the most well spoken individuals I have ever met…

7. The lighting up of Kenya’s beloved elephant: It was really cool hearing everyone countdown to the lighting up of Ahmed the Elephant.. The last time I was this excited about a countdown was at New Year’s Eve! The video below shows the lighting occasion and features speeches by The Irish Ambassador to Kenya, Dr. Vincent O’Neill, The Cabinet Secretary of Environment, Prof. Judi Wakhungu, and the Governor of Marsabit (who has a great sense of humour!)
